Rams

SoFi Stadium sits low and wide in Inglewood, holding 70,240 for NFL Sundays and stretching toward 100,000 when the occasion calls for it. The Rams share it with the Chargers, a tenancy that turned an old freeway rivalry into a stadium one — same building, same city block, opposing locker rooms.

The franchise did not start in Los Angeles at all. It was founded in 1936 in Cleveland, and it was there, in 1945, that the Rams won their first NFL Championship. Owner Dan Reeves moved the team west the following year, making it the first major professional sports club on the West Coast, and Los Angeles answered with a second title in 1951. The club played at the Coliseum, then in Anaheim, before Georgia Frontiere shifted the franchise to St. Louis in 1995 — a relocation that eventually reversed itself in 2016, when the Rams came home to Los Angeles and, in 2020, into SoFi.

Two Super Bowl wins bookend the eras on either side of that move. Kurt Warner threw St. Louis to the title in 1999 as the face of the "Greatest Show on Turf." Twenty-two years later, back in Los Angeles, Aaron Donald closed out Super Bowl LVI against the Bengals, a defensive tackle.

But the history that shapes a home Sunday at SoFi runs no further than across the parking lot, to the Chargers, sharing the same address.
