Razorbacks

Jerry Jones played quarterback for Arkansas on the 1964 team; he later bought the Dallas Cowboys and is now enshrined at Canton as a contributor. Arkansas finished that year 11–0, and enough selectors — the Football Writers Association of America among them — named the Razorbacks champions before the AP and Coaches polls had already settled on Alabama.

Thirteen Southwest Conference championships followed across four decades, and eleven of them carry Frank Broyles' name as head coach between 1958 and 1976. Arkansas left the Southwest Conference for the Southeastern Conference, and the rivalry that had defined it since that first 1894 season, the meetings with Texas, gave way to newer stakes: the Battle Line Rivalry against Missouri, played for the Battle Line Trophy, alongside standing fixtures against LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.

The nickname predates all of it by only a little. Coach Hugo Bezdek watched his 1909 team play and said they went at it "like a wild band of razorback hogs"; the name stuck for 1910, and cardinal and white were adopted as the team's colours that same year. Dan Hampton, a defensive tackle who went on to Canton with the Chicago Bears, and Lance Alworth are the program's Hall of Fame names on the professional side.

Arkansas has taken 18 bowl games, from the 1947 Dixie Bowl to the 2024 Liberty Bowl, with an Orange Bowl win over second-ranked Oklahoma in January 1977 that some selectors credited as a second national championship, one Arkansas has never claimed for itself. The stadium in Fayetteville that has hosted this history since Reynolds' name came off it now carries CommunityAmerica's, seating 76,212.
