RedHawks

That conference table has, at various points, gone their way seventeen times over, split across three leagues as the RedHawks moved through them: four Ohio Athletic Conference titles in the years just after the First World War, three more in the Buckeye Conference during the 1930s, and the run of Mid-American Conference championships that followed, from 1948 through to 2023. The program dates to 1888, old enough that Miami University has become known in coaching circles as the "Cradle of Coaches" — Paul Brown passed through here, as did Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Bo Schembechler and, more recently, Sean McVay, who went on to win a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams. Ben Roethlisberger played his college football at Yager Stadium before he ever won one with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The nickname itself is younger than the club. For most of the twentieth century the team was known as the Redskins, a name retired in 1997 after the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma asked the university to drop it out of respect for the tribe's sovereignty.

What the record book does not show is a national championship.
