There is no domestic season here to speak of: the Junior Wasps come together only when a tournament calls for them, then disband until the next one, which shapes everything about how the side is built and judged. FERWAFA, the federation running Rwandan football since 1975, put the under-20 side together in 1998, and its record still consists mostly of what it has not done — no CECAFA Under-20 Championship, no finals appearance at the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations. The closest it came was 2009, when Rwanda hosted the qualifying group and got through to the next stage on home advantage.

That home advantage runs through Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali, a ground built to hold around 45,000, though the age group also turns out at the smaller Kigali Pelé Stadium when the fixture does not need the bigger bowl.

Coaches have rotated through in step with each cycle — Vincent Mashami, Jean Baptiste Kayiranga, Eric Nshimiyimana all took charge at different points — reflecting a setup built around campaigns rather than continuity.
