Semen Padang

Sriwijaya FC sits on the other side of the Andalas derby, sometimes called the Super Sumatra derby, and few fixtures in Indonesian football carry that weight of regional pride between two rival islands' capitals. That rivalry has outlasted long stretches when Semen Padang had little else to shout about, including a run through the second tier and, after finishing 17th in the 2025–26 Super League, a fresh relegation that sends the club back into the Championship for 2026–27.

The high point remains 2011–12: the title was sealed on 24 June 2012 with a 3–1 win over Persiraja Banda Aceh, ten points clear of runners-up Persema Malang. Vendry Mofu and Nur Iskandar anchored that side through midfield, while Hugo de Souza finished as the club's top scorer that season. Two decades earlier, in 1992, Semen Padang had already won the Piala Galatama, and the Indonesian Community Shield followed in 2013.

The club takes its nickname, Kabau Sirah, from the Minangkabau words for "Red Buffalo," a reference that sits comfortably with West Sumatra's own culture rather than borrowed from elsewhere. Its ground, the Gelora Haji Agus Salim Stadium, holds 11,000 and has stayed a modest, local arena rather than a showcase venue even through the club's better years.

Few figures are tied to Semen Padang as closely as Hengky Ardiles, who wore the shirt from 1999 to 2019 and later returned to the club as interim coach. Two decades on one side of the pitch, watching the derby with Sriwijaya come and go every year, left him as the name supporters reach for first when the club's history comes up.
