Nové Město sits in the heart of Prague, and the Sokol movement did: Miroslav Tyrš and Jindřich Fügner founded the gymnastics society on 16 February 1862, and it was into that tradition that a basketball section arrived in 1919.

The one campaign the club still points back to is 1940/41, when Sokol Pražský won the Zemská liga Čechy a Morava, the Czechoslovak championship of the day. They had come close two seasons earlier, finishing runners-up in 1938/39, and closed the decade with third place in the Státní liga in 1948/49.

The team now plays in the Liga West group of the 1. Liga, the second tier, and its games against USK Praha B and BA Sparta Praha carry the weight of a Prague derby, three clubs sharing the same city and the same ambition to move up. Home games are played in a hall that holds around 300, small enough that the club leans on its youth academy to keep filling a roster, and it is that pipeline that produced Adam Růžička, named the country's best 3x3 player in 2026.

What the club has not done in the modern era is reach the top-flight NBL or lift the Czech Cup, and second-tier basketball in a city with three clubs chasing the same promotion leaves Sokol Pražský still waiting for a season that repeats 1941.
