Bucharest's Berceni district doesn't offer much room for an ice rink, and for years Sportul Studențesc's hockey players didn't have one at all. The team traces back to 1932, when the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation approved affiliation requests from university sporting groups, Sportul Studențesc among them. That student origin is still carried in the nickname "Studenții".
The Mihai Flamaropol Skating Rink, an 8,000-capacity venue, had been their home until it was demolished in 2016. What followed was a stretch of playing away from Bucharest or wherever ice could be found, until the Berceni Arena opened in August 2024 with room for 800 spectators — a stopgap while a permanent complex, planned for around 3,200 to 3,700 seats, is built for a expected 2026 opening.
Sportul Studențesc, in black and white, has never taken the Campionatul Național title or the Romanian Cup; the closest the club came was finishing runner-up in the 1995–96 season.
Through the moves between rinks and the years without one, Ioan Martin has stayed behind the bench, coaching the team for more than two decades.
