Straubing Tigers

Max Pielmaier put together a group of friends in Straubing in 1941 and called it Bann Straubing, the city's first hockey side, before breaking away on its own in 1981 as EHC Straubing. The club that carries the name today, the Straubing Tigers GmbH & Co. KG, only came into being in 2002, after EHC Straubing went bankrupt and the professional operation had to be restarted. Straubing still counts 1941 as its founding year regardless.

The nickname arrived earlier than the current company, adopted in 1994. The club plays out of the Eisstadion am Pulverturm, opened in 1967, in blue and white.

Promotion to the DEL came via the 2. Bundesliga title in 2006, and the club has since gone deep in the Champions Hockey League, reaching the round of 16 in 2022–23, and reached DEL semi-finals in 2011–12 and again in 2023–24.

Mike Connolly stands as the club's leading scorer of the DEL era, while Sandro Schönberger holds the franchise record for games played. Bill Trew's goalscoring earned him a retired number, 41, alongside Calvin Elfring's 24 and Doug Kirton's 11.

Bavarian derbies against Ingolstadt, Augsburg, Nuremberg and Munich carry the sharpest edge on the calendar.
