No date on the LSU calendar draws more attention in Baton Rouge than the visit from Alabama , a rivalry that has more than once carried the Southeastern Conference (SEC) title with it and left the losing side without a share of it. Ole Miss runs a close second in that ranking, on grounds that have as much to do with pride as with the standings.

The program traces to 1893, decades before it had a stadium to call its own. Tiger Stadium opened in 1924 and has since grown into one of the largest venues in college football, seating just over 102,000 for LSU games.

LSU has claimed the national title in major college football six times, in 1958, 1961, 2003 and 2019, and has added conference titles across five different decades. The roster has sent a long line of players into the NFL draft, several of them later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

None of that changes what decides how a season is remembered in Baton Rouge: whether LSU had the better of Alabama, and whether it settled things with Ole Miss.
