Rodion Amirov spent his junior years wearing Tolpar's green and white before Toronto took him fifteenth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, and it is his name people in Ufa still reach for when the club comes up. He died in 2023, and the development side that shaped him keeps producing players for its parent club, HC Salavat Yulaev, the reason Tolpar exists at all.

The club was set up in 2009 purely to feed talent upward, and it took its name from a winged horse out of Bashkir and Turkic legend. Within two seasons it had already topped the Major Hockey League's regular-season table, in 2010/11, and added bronze in the league championship that same year. A runners-up finish at the World Cup of Junior Club Teams in 2014 rounded out its best spell.

Games against MHC Irbis Kazan carry their own name, the Green Derby, and those nights against Stalnye Lisy Magnitogorsk tend to have the table go out of the window regardless of form. Tolpar plays out of the Sports Palace named for its parent club, a 3,500-seat venue.

The 2023/24 season brought a doping case, with several players returning positive tests for meldonium, a stain the club has had to carry.
