Varhaug

Varhaug are into the 1. Division for the first time in the men's team's history, having beaten Reistad in qualification for a place in Norwegian handball's second tier for the 2026/27 season. The opening home fixture in the new division, on 5 September 2026, went their way too: a 28–25 win over Bækkelaget. Ruben Nord-Varhaug scored eight goals in that match, part of a squad strengthened for the campaign by two Danish signings, Mike Würtz Lønne and Mats Gordon Krog, both arriving from Nærbø, where Lønne had been part of the side that won the EHF Challenge Cup in 2022.

The club plays as the handball section of Varhaug Idrettslag, a multi-sport organisation whose other branches compete under the same name. Promotion is the closest thing to a trophy in the men's team's history; the women's side reached the 1. Division only once, for the 2007–08 season, and never again. Locally, Varhaug are regarded as a development club within the Jæren district, and their sharpest fixtures come against Haugesund's handball clubs, part of what people in the area call the Jæren derby, alongside meetings with Nærbø and Bogafjell.

Home games are played at Jæren Sparebank Arena, a hall that opened in 2016 and cost 43 million kroner to build.
