Halden

Handball in Halden used to belong to Tistedalens Turn- og Idrettsforening, and it was only when the club's elite handball department broke away from Tistedalen TIF that a separate identity took shape, on 18 April 2011.

What followed came fast. Within four seasons the newly independent club had climbed into the Eliteserien, now known as the REMA 1000-ligaen, arriving in the 2014/15 campaign. Much of that rise is put down to Jonas Wille, a former Norwegian international who coached the side from 2011 to 2017 and is credited as the one who built the team that reached the top flight; he later went on to coach the Norwegian national side. Jan Thomas Lauritzen took over from him in 2017, the same season Halden reached the final of the NM-cupen, finishing runners-up.

The 2024/25 season tested the club in a different way. A financial crisis surfaced in the spring of 2025, built around sponsor contracts that turned out to be fabricated, and daily manager Kine Huke Holmstrøm was dismissed that May. Two points had already been deducted at the start of the season over the mismanagement, and the club stayed off the brink only through player salary cuts and a crowdfunding push that brought in more than 200,000 NOK. A playoff spot was still secured on the pitch, but the financial hole was deep enough to send Halden down to the 1. Division for 2025/26.

Since September 2024 they have played at the Nexans arena Halden, holding 2,300, having spent their earlier years at Tistedalshallen.
