Velké Meziříčí

Velké Meziříčí sit in the 2. česká hokejová liga, the third tier, having worked their way up through regional hockey rather than down from anywhere higher. The club's own promotion came in 2005–06, when a Jihomoravský a Zlínský title finally lifted Horáci out of the regional leagues, and they backed it up more than a decade later with a further regional championship in 2018–19 and again in 2019–20.

The name Horáci points to the Horácko region rather than the town alone, and the club has carried it since 1906, when it started out as a bandy side under the banner SK Velké Meziříčí. The town did not get an artificial surface until 1995, when the Zimní stadion Velké Meziříčí opened and freed the club from waiting on frozen ponds.

There is no love lost with SKLH Žďár nad Sázavou, the neighbouring club whose meetings with Horáci are known locally as the okresní derby. Technika Brno and BK Havlíčkův Brod fill out the regional rivalries without carrying the same weight.
