«Warhawks»
The Warhawks belong to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and the program traces back to 1931, when the school was still a junior college fielding a team known as the Indians. That name carried through the school's growth into a senior college and, eventually, into the University of Louisiana at Monroe, before the athletic department made the switch to Warhawks in 2006 — though students at the campus newspaper had already been calling the team that informally since 1955.
The high point came in 1987, when the Warhawks won the NCAA Division I-AA National Championship behind quarterback Stan Humphries. Southland Conference titles followed at intervals across the following two decades, in 1990, 1992 and 2005, alongside the earlier one in 1982.
Every year the season turns on one date in particular: the Battle on the Bayou against Louisiana–Lafayette, played for a wooden boot that sits in whichever locker room wins it. Louisiana Tech has supplied the other long-running grudge match. Malone Stadium, with room for 27,617, will carry a new name — FMOL Health | St. Francis Stadium — from the 2026 season, though the maroon and gold on the field will not change.
