Buffalo Park
East London, South Africa
Formerly: Mercedes-Benz Park
Buffalo Park is a cricket ground in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Border Cricket has played here since October 1988, when the team moved from the Jan Smuts Ground. The capacity is 15,000. A Test match between South Africa and Bangladesh in October 2002 drew 11,698 spectators, the highest figure recorded. The ground hosted three matches during the 2003 Cricket World Cup, and later six group games at the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2024. Floodlights were installed in 1990; they need replacing.
The playing surface is natural grass. The stadium has no heating system. A major renovation carried out for the 2003 World Cup cost approximately R12 million. Current plans for the 2027 Cricket World Cup involve an estimated R67 million investment, including new floodlights and a media centre refurbishment. The venue is also one of the home grounds for the Warriors cricket team. It was formerly known as Mercedes-Benz Park due to sponsorship.
