Haynes Oval
Nassau, Bahamas
Haynes Oval sits on West Bay Street in Nassau, tucked between Fort Charlotte and the cruise ship harbour. It opened in 1940, when Peter Bethel and Dr Norman Gay let the Bahamas Cricket Association use the land. The ground was not built by a single architect; the Cricket Club Pavilion came later, funded by a Barclays Bank loan and designed by the Ministry of Works, with Sidney Deveaux and Irving Taylor pushing the project through. It stands as the home of the national side, hosting the 2013 ICC Americas Twenty20 Division Two tournament and local club matches on weekends from March through November.
The pitch is natural grass with three turf wickets laid by the BCA, alongside three artificial practice nets. No capacity figure is recorded, and the site is often mistaken for Desmond Haynes Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados; they are not the same place. Visitors who turn up on a Saturday can watch a local game, but the only international fixture that drew attention was the 2013 event, which passed without a recorded attendance record.
There is no sign that distinguishes the venue beyond the pavilion. The surface stays natural throughout the season, though the practice nets provide a constant alternative when conditions turn wet.
