Headingley Stadium
Leeds, United Kingdom
Formerly: Headingley Carnegie Stadium, Emerald Headingley Stadium, AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium
The Tetley's South Stand is the part of Headingley you see first. Though in these photographs it is the other half of the complex that is visible.
The ground is defined by its dual purpose. The rugby pitch is a fibresand surface, while the cricket oval is a clay and sand mixture. This distinction matters because the two sports require different preparations, yet the stadium has to accommodate both. The 2019 redevelopment replaced the old South and North stands with the modern structures seen today.
Headingley is one of the few venues in the country that has hosted major events for both codes in recent years. It staged matches for the Rugby League World Cup in 2013 and again in 2021, and it played host to the third Test of the 2023 Ashes series. The cricket ground has seen England defeat Australia on its turf.
