Yorkshire Women

Long before Yorkshire Women belonged to any organised league, the side simply looked for opposition where it could be found: the earliest match on record, played in 1935, was against the Yorkshire Cricket Federation Women. Fixtures stayed sparse for decades until the team entered the Women's Area Championship in 1980, then moved up to the Women's County Championship in 1997.

The Area Championship years brought six titles between 1988 and 1996, and once the County Championship took over as the top division, Yorkshire added six more, the last of them in 2015.

Between 2020 and 2024 the county's professional players were folded into a regional franchise, Northern Diamonds, and the name Yorkshire Women disappeared from team sheets. The 2025 season reversed that: the county went back to fielding a Yorkshire Women side, matching the men's team, which dropped its 'Vikings' nickname the same year.

Matches against Lancashire Women are known as the Roses Derby, a name borrowed from the historical Wars of the Roses, and Yorkshire itself plays under the same emblem, the White Rose.

Helen Sharpe captained England through the 1950s and 60s while playing for Yorkshire.
