Essex return to county cricket this year as one of the eight Tier 1 professional sides created when the England and Wales Cricket Board restructured the women's domestic game in 2025. For the previous five seasons the county's players had turned out for Sunrisers, the regional side covering London and the East, an arrangement that ended in 2024.
Essex's first recorded fixture, against Buckinghamshire, was played in 1949. The London Championship, won in 2023, was a notable achievement before the switch to professional status.
Home matches are played at the County Ground in Chelmsford, a 6,500-capacity ground shared with the men's Essex Eagles.
