Neither owes anything to the recent rebuilding of the county set-up. The name on the shirt goes back to a match against Hampshire on 2 October 1811, but the side that plays now was assembled in 2024, when the England and Wales Cricket Board scrapped the regional franchises and handed the professional structure back to the counties. Surrey went into 2025 with Tier 1 status, the top tier of that new arrangement.

Under the South East Stars banner that preceded the county side, the same core won the Charlotte Edwards Cup in 2021 and were beaten finalists in 2024 — the closest thing the club has to continuity between its old and new identities. Further back, the county side itself won the Women's Twenty20 Cup in 2009 and climbed the old County Championship, taking Division Three in 2006 and Division Two two years later.

Surrey wear sky blue and white, echoing the county club's own limited-overs colours rather than staking out anything separate. Home games are played at the Kia Oval in Kennington.
