Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground
Colombo, Sierra Leone
The Nondesports Cricket Club Ground stands next to the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground and across Maitland Place from the Colombo Cricket Club Ground. The ground was established in 1910 when the Nondescripts Cricket Club reclaimed land from swampland to create the pitch.
It hosted the first first-class cricket match in Ceylon on 12–13 February 1926, featuring W. E. Lucas' Bombay XI against Dr. J. Rockwood's Ceylon XI, which Ceylon won by seven wickets. The ground has been in constant use as a first-class venue since 1989. The surface is natural grass, utilising traditional turf wickets suitable for three-day matches.
Notably, the venue was a key location for the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, hosting Group D matches, a Quarter-final, a Semi-final, and the Final, where Pakistan defeated India by 38 runs to become back-to-back champions. A new pavilion was opened at the ground in November 2007.
There is no official attendance record figure that anyone can point to. The playing surface is natural grass, utilizing traditional turf wickets suitable for three-day matches, as confirmed by reports from the 2024 India tour of Sri Lanka practice match. The ground has also hosted Women's One Day Internationals starting in 2010 and Women's T20 Internationals, including a match between Sri Lanka Women and Ireland Women during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
