Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium
Colombo, Sierra Leone
Formerly: Colombo Oval
What makes the place different is not its capacity, which sits at **15,000**, but the way the light hits the pitch. The grass is natural, worn smooth by decades of play. On the surface, it appears batting-friendly, offering good bounce early on, but spinners who wait patiently eventually find their rhythm as the game drags out.
The ground has witnessed the impossible and the routine. In **March 1948**, when Sir Donald Bradman captained the Australian Invincibles, the crowd did not just fill the stands; they climbed the surrounding trees to watch.
It was also the stage for history closer to home. Sri Lanka played their first Test match here against England in **1982**, losing by seven wickets. They did not win another until three years later, beating India in **1985**. Today, the pitch is known as P. Sara Oval, a nickname born from its founder, Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu, who died in **1950** before the name was officially changed in **1977**.
