R. Premadasa Stadium
Colombo, Sri Lanka
Formerly: Khettarama Stadium, Khettarama Cricket Stadium
R. Premadasa Stadium sits on ground that was once wet and difficult to build on, before the former president provided the site and Arch International (Pvt) Ltd raised the structure. The relocation of the venue followed the 1996 World Cup, when matches had been forfeited because of security concerns.
The capacity ballooned from 10,000 to 14,000 in the early days to 40,000 during the renovation for the 2011 Cricket World Cup, though the official figure stands at 35,000. The $8 million project gave the place its current shape. On the field, the surface remains natural grass.
It serves as the home of the Sri Lanka national cricket team and the Colombo Strikers of the Lanka Premier League. The ground has hosted the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy final, the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 final, and the 2023 Asia Cup final. Sri Lanka's highest Test total of 952/6 declared against India in 1997 was set here, as was Kumar Sangakkara's record ODI score of 169 against South Africa in 2013.
