Sala Sporturilor "Dumitru Popescu Colibași"

The Sala Sporturilor Dumitru Popescu Colibași sits at 21 Gării Boulevard in Brașov. It is an indoor arena owned by the Brașov Council, built with groundbreaking in 1973 and opened in 1975. The building has been through two distinct lives. The first phase ended with minor repairs in 2007, but the real shift came with a major €7 million renovation between 2011 and 2013. That project replaced all installations, the synthetic indoor sports floor, and the scoreboard, while extending the parking and modernizing the exterior. The renovated hall was inaugurated in April 2013, marked by a Davis Cup tie between Romania and Belarus.

The venue is named after Dumitru Popescu Colibași, a Romanian handball manager, rugby player, and author who lived from 1912 to 1993. The exact year of the renaming is unclear, but it is referred to by this name in recent years, such as 2011 and 2013. Previously, it was known simply as "Sala Sporturilor" or "Sala Sporturilor din Brașov."

The arena serves as the home venue for the women’s handball club CSM Corona Brașov and the club’s women’s volleyball team. It also hosts basketball, volleyball, and cultural events, including concerts. The capacity is confirmed at 1,700 seats, though some sources cite 1,600 or 1,570. The playing surface is a synthetic indoor sports floor, which was replaced during the renovations.

Notable events hosted include the 2005 Davis Cup World Group tie between Romania and Belarus. The venue has been central to the history of CSM Corona Brașov women’s handball, which won the 2005–06 EHF Challenge Cup and reached the final of the 2007–08 EHF Cup Winners’ Cup. The team also hosted EHF Cup semi-finals in 2008–09 and 2015–16. In the 2019–20 EHF Cup, the team was suspended by the EHF after three players tested positive for a banned substance.
