Sportovní hala Frýdek-Místek

The Sportovní hala Frýdek-Místek was located on the banks of the Ostravice river before being dismantled. It served as a hub for both ice hockey and handball in the Frýdek district.

Its history began with construction that started in the early seventies, culminating in an opening in 1985. Over the decades, it hosted significant events, including the 1994 IIHF World U20 Championship and the first Czech Extraliga All-Star Game in 1996. The capacity for ice hockey was substantial, allowing nearly 6,500 spectators to watch the action, though the layout shifted for other configurations.

The end of the hall came after a period of disrepair. Despite investments aimed at repair, the structure was too old to sustain its purpose. It was demolished in 2013, the site cleared to make way for the Frýda Shopping Center and a new arena. The team HC Frýdek-Místek had to play elsewhere as the community adapted to the loss of its primary indoor venue.

The replacement, Hala Polárka, opened in December 2014 at a different address on Na Příkopě. It is smaller, holding fewer than 2,100 fans, but provides the modern facilities the old hall could no longer offer. The original building now exists only as memory. The stadium Stadion Stovky for FK Frýdek-Místek remains a separate entity, but for indoor sports, the new hall is the only option left.
