CONMEBOL U20 Femenino serves as the premier continental tournament for South American women’s national teams under the age of 20. Organised by the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol, the competition operates as the official qualification pathway for the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. All ten member associations participate in every edition, with no promotion or relegation structure affecting the field of play.

The current format relies on a preliminary group stage followed by a decisive final round. In the 2026 season, the top three teams from each of the two initial groups advance to a hexagonal final stage. The champion of this final phase claims the title, while the leading finishers secure places at the global championship. Since 2024, the tournament awards four World Cup spots to the highest-ranking nations in this concluding round.

Brazil holds an undisputed monopoly on success in the competition’s history. The nation has won every edition since the inaugural tournament in 2004, securing an 11th consecutive title in the 2026 campaign held in Paraguay. No other country has lifted the trophy. Paraguay stands as the most frequent runner-up, reaching the final four times, while Argentina and Colombia have each finished second on three and two occasions respectively.

The event takes place every two years, usually in even-numbered seasons. While the inaugural 2004 edition featured only four participants, the field has included all ten confederation members since 2006. Individual records remain tied to the competition’s past; Brazilian player Marta scored 14 goals in the 2006 edition, a benchmark that has not been surpassed. The 2020 tournament was cancelled after the group stage due to global health restrictions.
