About

Copa Perú was established in 1967 by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF), following a 1965 precursor initiated by Orlando Balarezo. It operates as the primary amateur pathway for clubs seeking entry into the professional league system. Currently, the tournament forms the fourth tier of the Peruvian football pyramid, sitting below Liga 1 and Liga 2, with Liga 3 occupying the third tier. Its status fluctuated between the second and third tiers from its inception until 2022. The competition is notable for its massive scale, involving thousands of clubs across a four-stage hierarchical structure: District (Distrital), Provincial (Provincial), Departmental (Departamental), and National (Nacional). The National Stage typically features 50–64 teams, divided into zones, with a group phase followed by knockout rounds. Recent formats, such as the 2024 edition, utilized 32 teams in eight groups. Early knockouts, including the Round of 32 and Round of 16, were played as two-legged ties, while Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and the Final were single matches. The champion gains promotion to Liga 2, while the runner-up enters a playoff for a Liga 2 spot. Other top finishers may enter Liga 3. Atlético Torino holds the record with five titles. The most recent champion is Unión Minas (2025). The tournament stands apart from the closed, professional nature of the top tiers by facilitating geographic mobility for provincial teams outside Lima. The official website is copaperu.fpf.org.pe.
