The Coupe de la Ligue Professionnelle, known as the Algerian League Cup, was established in 1991 by the Algerian Football Federation (FAF). It operates as a knockout tournament exclusively for professional clubs, primarily drawn from Ligue 1. The primary function of the competition is to fill calendar gaps or serve as a contingency when the main Algerian Cup is cancelled.
In contrast to the broader domestic cup, this competition is restricted to professional entities. Its history is marked by irregularity due to security issues in the 1990s and scheduling conflicts. The 1991–92 edition was cancelled in the semi-finals. Winners include MC Oran in 1995–96, MC Alger in 1997–98, and CR Belouizdad in 1999–00. The final professional edition took place in 2020–21, won by JS Kabylie. They defeated NC Magra on penalties following a 2–2 draw, securing the spot as the qualifier for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The format is strictly a straight knockout tournament. Participation involves clubs such as ES Sétif, JSM Skikda, CR Belouizdad, NC Magra, Olympique Médéa, and ASO Chlef. Since its last iteration in 2021, the competition has been defunct and has not been held since.
