The Singapore Cup is the leading domestic knockout tournament for football in the country. Established in 1998, the competition evolved from the Singapore League Cup, which ran for a single season in 1997. Organised by the Football Association of Singapore (FAS), it operates independently from the Singapore FA Cup, which shifted to an amateur focus in the same year.
Participation extends beyond domestic sides. While the Singapore Premier League remains a closed domestic structure, the cup invites international teams from across Southeast Asia and further afield, including clubs from Thailand, Brunei, and Japan. The current format, applied in the 2024–25 campaign, splits ten teams into two groups of five. The top two from each group progress to two-legged semi-finals, culminating in a single-match final.
Lion City Sailors hold the record for success, having claimed nine titles. Their victories came in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2011, 2013, 2023, 2024–25, and 2025–26. In the most recent final, the Sailors defeated Tampines Rovers 2–0 to retain their status as reigning champions. The club’s dominance is matched by few others; Albirex Niigata (S), Tampines Rovers, and Warriors FC each possess four titles.
The trophy carries significant continental weight. The winner earns a place in the AFC Champions League Two, providing a route to Asian competition distinct from the domestic league standings. Title sponsorship has seen changes over time, with RHB Bank supporting the event from 2005 to 2018 and Komoco Motors taking over in 2019. The competition remains the primary knockout pathway for clubs seeking silverware outside the regular season.
