Dhivehi Premier League (Maldives) 2023/24

The **Dhivehi Premier League** operates at the top level of football in the Maldives, governed by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). It replaced the earlier Dhivehi League, which had run since 1985, when the top-flight structure launched in 2015. The competition determines the national champion and serves as the main path for qualification to the AFC Challenge League.

Maziya stands as the most successful club in the league’s history, securing six titles. Their victories came in 2016, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2022, 2023, and the 2025–26 season. New Radiant has won twice, claiming the crown in 2015 and 2017, while TC Sports Club added one title in 2018.

The format changed significantly over time. The first season in 2015 involved eight teams playing 21 games each. By 2025, the league grew to ten clubs and switched to a double round-robin schedule, meaning each side plays 18 matches.

Relegation rules are strict for the bottom teams. The clubs finishing ninth and tenth drop directly into the Second Division. Those placing seventh and eighth face a playoff against the winners of the four regional FAM leagues.

The league has seen disciplinary actions affecting the standings. In 2019–20, New Radiant and Victory SC were suspended for unpaid wages, resulting in their relegation and consolidating Maziya’s status as champions that year. Individual records also exist, such as Ahmed Rizuvan scoring 31 goals in a single season during 2018.
