About

Erovnuli Liga 2 operates as the second tier of professional football in Georgia, positioned directly below the top-flight Erovnuli Liga. The competition underwent significant structural changes in 2017, switching from a calendar-year format to a traditional spring-autumn season and reducing the field to ten clubs. It is organized by the Georgian Football Federation and has carried its current name since that rebranding.

Each season sees every club play every other team four times, creating a double round-robin structure that totals thirty-six matches per side. This format ensures a comprehensive league table determines final standings without early eliminations. The stakes involve direct movement between tiers: the champion secures automatic promotion to the first division, while the second and third-placed teams enter play-offs against ninth and eighth-placed sides from the top flight.

Relegation affects the bottom of the table, with the tenth-placed club dropping automatically to Liga 3. That third tier feeds back into Erovnuli Liga 2 through automatic promotion for its leading two teams and play-off opportunities for third and fourth place against seventh and eighth placed sides from the second tier. Crystalbet sponsors the league, lending its name to the competition officially.

FC Rustavi and Gareji have claimed recent titles, with Rustavi winning in 2025 and Gareji taking the 2024 championship. Historically, Shukura Kobuleti holds the record for most victories with five titles, followed by Rustavi, Chikhura Sachkhere, Iveria Khashuri, and Guria Lanchkhuti, each with two. The league serves as the primary developmental pathway for Georgian football, bridging the gap between the elite division and regional third-tier competitions.
