FKF Premier League (Kenya) 2026/27

The FKF Premier League is the top-flight division of football in Kenya, operating at Level 1 of the national pyramid. Controlled by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), the competition was established in 1963 under the name Kenya National Football League. It underwent restructuring in 2003, becoming a limited liability company owned by the participating clubs. The league has carried various sponsorship names, including the Tusker Premier League and SportPesa Premier League, before settling on its current title.

The season runs from August to May, featuring a double round-robin format where each of the 18 clubs plays every other team twice. This schedule totals 34 matches per side. The competition links directly to the second-tier FKF National Super League through promotion and relegation. Typically, the bottom two Premier League sides are relegated automatically, while the 16th-placed team enters a playoff against the third-placed National Super League side. Recent regulatory proposals have suggested expanding this to direct relegation for the bottom three and automatic promotion for the top three, although legal disputes have occasionally paused these movements.

Gor Mahia stands as the most successful club in the league's history, holding 21 titles as of the end of the 2023–24 season. Tusker FC follows with 13 championship wins, and AFC Leopards has secured 12. The 2025–26 season concluded with Gor Mahia claiming the title. The league's primary rival competition is the FKF Cup, a knockout tournament where the winner qualifies for the CAF Confederation Cup. In contrast, the Premier League champion earns a spot in the CAF Champions League. The competition has also faced external pressures, including a 2022 FIFA suspension of the FKF due to government interference, which was lifted later that year.
