The Recopa de Costa Rica is a super cup competition in Costa Rican football, organized by UNAFUT (Unión de Clubes de Fútbol de la Primera División). It was first played in 1963 by the Costa Rican Football Federation. The inaugural 1963 edition featured Deportivo Saprissa against Uruguay de Coronado; Saprissa was declared winner after a 1-1 draw and Uruguay's refusal to play extra time. A second edition was held in 1967, won by LD Alajuelense (1-0 vs AD Barrio México). The competition was discontinued after 1967 and revived in 2023. The format involves a single match between the previous season's Primera División aggregate champion and the Torneo de Copa winner. If one team wins both, the league runner-up participates. The 2023 edition was won by Deportivo Saprissa (vs Cartaginés). The 2024 edition was won by LD Alajuelense (3-1 vs Saprissa). The 2025 edition was won by LD Alajuelense (1-0 vs CS Herediano). As of 2025, LD Alajuelense holds the record with 3 titles (1967, 2024, 2025), followed by Deportivo Saprissa with 2 (1963, 2023). The competition is distinct from the Primera División (top league, 10-12 teams, Apertura/Clausura format) and the Torneo de Copa (knockout cup with multiple divisions). It does not offer continental qualification and is considered a ceremonial title. The 2025 final was played on July 20, 2025, in Cartago.
