Primera División (Costa Rica) 2026/27

The Primera División stands as the top tier of the football pyramid in Costa Rica. Currently branded as Liga Promerica, the competition operates under the administration of UNAFUT, which was created to professionalize the tournament. It is distinct in Central America for its consistent Apertura and Clausura structure. The season is split into two separate tournaments, each consisting of a regular phase followed by a four-team knockout playoff. If a team wins both phases, they are crowned champion automatically; otherwise, the playoff winners face off in a grand final. The league currently features 10 clubs, having reduced from the traditional 12 following license revocations. The format includes promotion and relegation involving a single spot based on an aggregate table of both tournaments.

Deportivo Saprissa is the most successful club with 40 titles, followed by Herediano with 32 and LD Alajuelense with 31. The current champion is Herediano, having won the 2026 Clausura. The competition holds the second-most titles among non-Mexican nations in CONCACAF competitions. It is also historically notable for the use of 'naturalizados', or naturalized foreign players. The primary rival domestic competition is the Copa de Costa Rica, a knockout cup involving teams from the first three tiers.
