About the player
Joel Campbell's career began at Alajuelense's own academy before he moved on to Deportivo Saprissa, where he made his first-team debut on 15 November 2009. Two years later, in August 2011, Arsenal signed him.
What followed was a long stretch of loan spells rather than a settled run in north London. Across his time at Arsenal itself he made 23 appearances and scored three goals.
He left Arsenal for Frosinone in Italy in 2018.
He spent the 2024/2025 season on loan in Brazil with Atlético Goianiense before returning to Costa Rica, where his contract with Alajuelense runs to 30 June 2026.
