Borges left Costa Rica for Europe in January 2009, joining Norway's Fredrikstad FK for around €125,000. He played 76 matches and scored 34 goals, a return that persuaded Swedish side AIK to sign him on a free transfer in 2012. 79 appearances, 26 goals — before Deportivo La Coruña brought him to Spain in January 2015, initially on loan with an option to buy that was later exercised. He then moved to Turkey's Göztepe in 2018, before an unusual detour.
He came back to Alajuelense in 2021 and has stayed since, his contract now running to December 2026. The record-appearance mark he holds at the club sits alongside team success: in 2025, Alajuelense won the Costa Rican championship and the Copa Centroamericana.
