Inter San Carlos

Two league titles in a year mark the run that took Inter San Carlos out of the second tier. The Apertura 2025 crown came first, sealed with a 5-2 aggregate win over A.D. COFUTPA in the final, and by the following Clausura the club went one better, beating Jicaral Sercoba 1-0 on aggregate to confirm automatic promotion to the Primera División. That second title followed a near miss: in Clausura 2025 the club had reached the same final and lost it to Fútbol Consultants on penalties, 5-4.

None of it carries much weight of history behind it. Inter San Carlos was founded in 2021, and its earlier run under the name San Carlos Fútbol Club — a losing final in the Apertura 2023 Tercera División, beaten 0-2 on aggregate by C.D. Pavas — reads now as the first step rather than the ceiling.

The club plays out of Estadio Carlos Ugalde Álvarez in Ciudad Quesada, a ground with room for 5,600. Green and yellow make up the colours, chosen, club president Geovanny Paniagua has said, to match the traditional colours of the San Carlos canton itself.

Two promotions inside five years have put Inter San Carlos in the Primera División for the first time, a jump from the amateur ranks to the top flight without the years usually spent in between.
