Municipal Grecia

Grecia is a coffee town in Alajuela province, the kind of place whose name rarely travels beyond its own hills — except through the football club that carries it. Locals call the team Los Griegos, after the town itself, and also La Pantera, a nickname tied to the club's mascot rather than the place. Founded in 1945, Municipal Grecia has spent the decades since as the version of the town that shows up on a scoreboard.

Home games are played at the Estadio Allen Riggioni Suárez, a ground small enough that locals simply call it the Panther's Lair, holding somewhere around 4,000 people. The club has worn dark blue as its base colour for years, though the trim has shifted — a blue shirt with black shorts at one point, a fully dark blue kit more recently.

Grecia has not stayed fixed in one division. As recently as 2022 the club was in the Primera División, taking on Saprissa, one of the country's biggest names. Since then it has settled into the Liga de Ascenso, Costa Rica's second tier, where it is entered for both the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons.

What the club has not done, in all that time, is win anything. No championship sits in its history — only the seasons themselves, moving up a division and back down again, with the town's name attached throughout.
