The Tunisia Cup is the premier knockout football competition in Tunisia, organized by the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF). Founded in 1922, it stands as the second most important national title after the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
The tournament operates as a single-elimination knockout event open to all registered clubs regardless of tier. The format typically begins with preliminary rounds for lower-division and amateur teams. Teams from Ligue 2, Ligue 3, and regional leagues enter early, while top-flight Ligue 1 teams usually join at the Round of 32 stage. The competition proceeds through the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and a single Final. Historically, replays were used for drawn matches, but modern editions utilize extra time and penalty shoot-outs.
Winning the cup grants the club a place in the CAF Confederation Cup, the second-tier continental competition. If the cup winner has already qualified for the CAF Champions League via league position, the spot is awarded to the next highest-placed league team. There is no promotion or relegation linked to cup performance.
Espérance de Tunis holds the record for the most victories with 17 titles. Club Africain follows with 13 titles, and Étoile du Sahel with 10. The current holder is Espérance de Tunis, who defeated Espérance de Zarzis 1–0 in the final. Notable past winners include lower-division or non-traditional giants such as AS Marsa (5 titles), Stade Tunisien (7 titles), Olympique Béja (1 title, won in 1993 while in Ligue 2), and Espérance de Zarzis (1 title, won in 2005 while in Ligue 2).
The competition has undergone several name changes reflecting political shifts. It was known as the Tunisian President Cup from 1956 to 2011. After the 2011 revolution, it reverted to the Tunisian Cup. Between 2019 and 2023, it was renamed after various national figures. In 2024, a brief attempt to rename it after the President was rejected by President Kais Saied, reverting it to the Tunisian Cup. Unlike the league, the cup allows for significant upsets due to regulations that often restrict top-tier clubs from using foreign players when facing lower-division opponents.
