The Algerian Super Cup features a single match between the winners of the top-flight league and the domestic cup. The competition sits below these two major trophies in prestige and often serves as a pre-season curtain-raider. It is organized by the Algerian Football Federation in collaboration with the Ligue de Football Professionnel.
The tournament has experienced irregular scheduling throughout its history due to political instability and social unrest. After its inception in 1981, it was held sporadically until a revival in 2006. A hiatus from 2008 to 2012 was followed by annual fixtures from 2013, with a break between 2020 and 2023. The match is played at a neutral venue, typically the Stade 5 Juillet in Algiers, with extra time and penalty shootouts used to decide the outcome.
MC Alger remains the most successful club with five titles, including victories in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2024, and 2025. They currently hold the championship after defeating USM Alger 1-0 in the 2025 final. ES Sétif, USM Alger, and CR Belouizdad have each secured two titles. Some finals have drawn significant crowds, with the 2006 encounter setting an attendance record of 50,000. Sponsorship deals have occasionally altered the name, such as the 'Mobilis Supercoupe' in 2019. The event frequently features high-profile derbies, including the match between MC Alger and CR Belouizdad.
