About

The Supercopa Ecuador is the season curtain-raiser for domestic football in Ecuador, organized by the Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol (FEF). It sits as a distinct official domestic cup, separate from the top-flight LigaPro Serie A and the primary domestic cup, the Copa Ecuador. The modern iteration was revived in 2020 following a 51-year hiatus, though an earlier edition known as the Campeonato de Campeones del Ecuador took place in 1969.

The competition currently operates as a single match played at a neutral venue. If the encounter ends in a draw, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out. Qualification is determined by the previous season's results: the LigaPro Serie A champion faces the Copa Ecuador champion. Should the same club win both titles, the Copa Ecuador runner-up takes the second spot.

In the modern era, LDU Quito has emerged as the most successful club, securing three titles between 2020 and 2025. The competition has seen interruptions; the 2022 and 2024 editions were not held due to cancellations of the Copa Ecuador caused by administrative and financial disputes. The 2021 edition was also a special case, operating as a six-team knockout tournament after the pandemic cancelled the domestic cup that year.

The 2026 edition is scheduled to feature Independiente del Valle against Universidad Católica. Other clubs such as Emelec, Aucas, Delfín SC, and El Nacional have participated in previous iterations. The competition does not typically carry a specific title sponsor in its name, remaining simply the Supercopa Ecuador.
