Liga Pro Serie B (Ecuador) 2026/27

The Ecuadorian Serie B operates as the second tier of the national football structure, sitting directly beneath the top-flight Serie A and above the amateur Segunda Categoría. Founded in 1971 by the Asociación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol, the competition was initially established to divide the national championship into two distinct series. After a brief period between 1983 and 1988 when it merged back into the third tier, it was reinstated as a separate division in 1989 and has run continuously since that point.

Currently organized by the Liga Profesional de Fútbol, the format for the 2025/2026 season involves 12 clubs. The campaign is structured into a regular season followed by a final phase that splits teams into a Promotion Group and a Relegation Group. In the Promotion Group, the top two teams secure direct advancement to the Serie A. Conversely, the bottom two sides in the Relegation Group face immediate drop to the Segunda Categoría. While historical mechanisms included playoffs, the current system favours direct promotion for the highest finishers in the final phase.

The league holds a unique position within the Ecuadorian pyramid as the primary feeder division for the top tier. It differs from the Serie A not only in its smaller squad size of 12 teams compared to 16 but also in its direct link to the semi-professional level for relegation purposes. The competition has seen various winners over its decades-long history, with Técnico Universitario leading the record with six titles. LDU Portoviejo and Macará each hold five championships. The title holder for the 2025 season is Guayaquil City.
