Gualaceo SC

Gerardo Gordillo played on 13 October 2021, the night Gualaceo SC beat Club Atlético Santo Domingo 1-0 to finish second in the Serie B table and reach Serie A for the first time in the club's history.

That side had started out as Gualaceños de Corazón on 2 April 2000, before the name changed to Gualaceo Sporting Club . It took until 2014 for the club to win the Segunda Categoría del Azuay and earn a place in Serie B, where it made its debut the following season — Cristian Vivas scored its first official goal at that level.

Serie A survival followed in 2022 and again in 2023, the second of those seasons carried in part by Patricio Mina, whose goal against Aucas stood out among the results that kept the club up. It did not last a third year: a 15th-place finish at the end of 2023 sent Gualaceo back down to Serie B.

Provincial rivalry runs against Deportivo Cuenca, the two meetings known locally as the Clásico Azuayo.
