Guayaquil City

In October 2025, Guayaquil City finished top of Serie B, Ecuador's second division. Then the disciplinary case caught up with the club. The Ecuadorian Football Federation had already sanctioned it for unpaid financial obligations, and when the matter reached the Tribunal Arbitral del Deporte, the ruling upheld those sanctions. The title now sits in dispute, with Leones FC waiting to inherit it.

The club did not start as Guayaquil City at all. It was founded on 7 September 2007 as Club Deportivo River Plate Ecuador. On 11 July 2017, the club dropped the River Plate name and became Guayaquil City Fútbol Club.

The badge still points back to that city rather than to the club's own short history: the crest is Guayaquil's colonial-era coat of arms, and the sky-blue and white of the kit are drawn from the city's flag rather than chosen for the team. Home matches are played at Estadio Christian Benítez Betancourt, a municipally owned ground holding 10,000 seats, with Estadio Modelo Alberto Spencer used as an alternative venue when needed.
