About the player
Kevin Josué Sambonino Terán came through Guayaquil City's own academy, making his debut for the club on 18 March 2018 against Delfín, a match Guayaquil City lost 0-1. He stayed in the first-team squad through the 2023 season, when the club were relegated from Serie A to Serie B, and had signed a contract extension with Guayaquil City back in February 2021 that ran to 2024.
In January 2024, Sambonino moved to Delfín SC as a free agent and spent a season there in Serie A and the Copa Sudamericana. He returned to Guayaquil City in 2025, again as a free agent, and this time helped the club win the Serie B title, sending Guayaquil City back up to the top flight of Ecuadorian football.
At youth level, Sambonino was part of the Ecuador under-17 squad at the 2017 South American Championship in Chile, where the team finished sixth after five matches without scoring. He was also named in an Ecuador under-20 squad, though he did not play.
Sambonino wears number 15 for Guayaquil City and, across his career to date, has made 192 appearances and scored three goals, with every one of his moves between clubs coming on a free transfer.
