Emelec

Emelec built the count in bursts rather than a steady climb — titles in 1957 and 1961, then a long push through the 1990s and 2000s, then a run of three straight in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and a fourteenth in 2017. The gaps between those clusters say as much as the total: long stretches where the league belonged to someone else, then years where Bombillo pulled it back.

The name traces to the company that gave the club its shirt colours and its nickname. Founded on 28 April 1929 by workers at the Empresa Eléctrica del Ecuador, the club kept the connection alive in the way people still refer to it — Bombillo, the lightbulb, alongside Eléctricos. Blue and silver have carried that identity through since.

Guayaquil gave Emelec its earliest rivalries too, in tournaments that no longer exist in the same form — amateur city championships in the 1940s, professional Guayas titles through the 1950s and into the mid-1960s, seven of those in all. A domestic cup has stayed out of reach; a 1969 final against Everest ended the wrong way.

Home games are played at the Estadio George Capwell, expanded in a 2015–2017 rebuild to hold around 40,000. One promotion sits on the record too, from 1981, a reminder that even a club with Emelec's honours list has had to come back up before it could win again.
