About the player
It would be thirteen years before he returned to Emelec, signing back in 2023 as a free agent on a one-season deal.
In between, Ayoví built a career out of arriving somewhere new and scoring immediately. At Argentina's Godoy Cruz he became the club's all-time top-scoring foreigner with 20 goals, topped the Argentine Superliga's scoring charts in the 2016/2017 season with 12, and became the first Ecuadorian to score a hat-trick in the Argentine championship, doing so against Aldosivi in October 2016. A spell at Independiente del Valle back home added a Copa Sudamericana and Copa Ecuador in 2022, then a Recopa Sudamericana in 2023.
His international career ran from 2010 to 2016, 40 caps and 10 goals for Ecuador. He was named in Ecuador's 2014 World Cup squad but did not play, and at the 2016 Copa América he featured in four matches, scoring once against Haiti.
