UT Cotopaxi

Latacunga sits in the shadow of the volcano that gives the province its name. UT Cotopaxi grew out of that university, formed on 8 August 2007, and it remains the only professional club the city has produced.

The team spent its early years working through Ecuador's regional amateur set-up before taking the Segunda Categoría title in 2009, promotion that put it into Serie B for the first time. It stayed there for five straight seasons. In Serie B the fixtures against Loyola de Loja and Manta FC came to carry the most weight.

Home matches are played at the Estadio Municipal Jaime Zumarraga, which holds 10,000. The city's larger ground, Estadio La Cocha, seats around 15,200 and has occasionally hosted the side, but Zumarraga remains the fixture on the calendar.
