Vargas Torres grew out of that — a club named after Luis Vargas Torres, the soldier and revolutionary of Eloy Alfaro's Liberal Revolution, formed on 15 March 1983 and known in the city as the people's team, and as the team of the Barrio Caliente.

That changed in 2022, when Vargas Torres won the Segunda Categoría de Esmeraldas and with it a place in the Ascenso Nacional.

The same year brought the club's deepest run in the Copa Ecuador, out at the quarter-finals to Mushuc Runa by a single goal.

Home was the Estadio Folke Anderson.
