Stadium
Estadio Folke Anderson
The stadium takes its name from a Swedish businessman, Folke Anderson, who handed the ground over to Ecuador ahead of the 1958 World Cup — it has stayed that way since it opened on 5 August 1956. Estadio Folke Anderson shares its tenancy between CSD Vargas Torres and Club Deportivo Esmeraldas Petrolero.
The ground's more recent history carries a darker mark. On 5 November 2022, Arturo Manaced Garcés, a coordinator for Vargas Torres, was killed at the stadium entrance after a second-category match against Aviced had finished 0-0.
Set on Calle 6 de Diciembre between Salinas and Quito streets, the stadium holds 14,000.
